Our client, a global leader in transportation technology, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of advanced rail signalling systems. In this role, you will design and validate CBTC components including racks, enclosures, and integrated subsystems, ensuring compliance with international railway mechanical and environmental standards.
You will leverage tools such as CREO, Solid Edge, ANSYS, and IcePak to perform mechanical, thermal, and vibration simulations while supporting validation testing and failure analysis. This position requires strong expertise in materials, EMC control, ingress protection, and shock/vibration principles.
This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned engineer who enjoys solving complex challenges, mentoring junior team members, and contributing to high-impact infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design CBTC mechanical components including racks, sub-racks, and wayside enclosures
- Integrate COTS equipment into compliant railway enclosures
- Perform mechanical design using CREO and Solid Edge
- Conduct mechanical and thermal simulations using ANSYS, CREO Advanced Simulation, Flotherm, and IcePak
- Perform vibration analysis, including PSD plotting
- Apply corrosion mitigation and EMC control techniques (grounding, gasketing, cabling, etc.)
- Ensure compliance with IP and NEMA ingress protection ratings
- Support validation & verification testing (thermal and vibration)
- Write and manage requirements using DOORs and Polarion
- Track progress and ensure timely, accurate completion of assigned tasks
- Mentor and support junior engineers
- Travel to customer sites (up to three times annually)
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- 6–10 years of relevant industry experience
- Strong mechanical design expertise (CREO, Solid Edge)
- Proficiency in ANSYS, CREO Advanced Simulation, IcePak
- Experience with EMC control and material properties (fatigue, failure analysis)
- Knowledge of ingress protection standards (IP, NEMA)
- Experience supporting validation and verification testing
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to assess options and present pros/cons clearly
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years in railway signaling working with international standards
- Advanced expertise in vibration, shock, fatigue, and crack propagation
- Proven failure analysis and design improvement experience
- Hands-on experience with vibration and thermal measurement tools
- Strong knowledge of corrosion mitigation and galvanic corrosion
- Experience reviewing specifications and ensuring full design compliance
